While discussing right wing musicians on another board the name of Ian Page of Secret Affair was raised. Anyone know whether Page (whse band I really liked at the time) was dodgy? Certainly his band's lyrics could be construed that way.

Hmmm, you know I love that first SA album but the lyrics do see sketchy in spots. Never heard of Page being right wing but it certainly seems that he's a bit on conservative side, there is definitely that vibe to it on more than a few tracks. Could just be that he's an elitist snob, which I've heard many times.

Never heard anything about Ian Page but I know that Tony Perfect aka Tony Feedback of '79 mod band Long Tall Shorty has right wing views. I wonder if Mensi knew about these views when Tony was in the Angelic Upstarts.

I'm splitting hairs a bit but when Tony was in the Upstarts they weren't as Left. Maybe they were offstage and in their personal lives but the lyrics weren't as pronouncedly slanted in that direction during that era.

Which albums did Tony play on when in the Upstarts? I have 'Still From The Heart' and while the sound might be quite poppy due to the record company I've heard there's still a few songs which I'd of said were political like 'Flames Of Brixton' and 'Soldier'.

Tony is definitely on SFTH and I think some singles around that era. To me "Flames Of Brixton" and "Soldier" are progressively political, but the sentiments in them aren't necessarily left per se...blah blah blah. I'm sure Tony could not have been incredibly right wing or he wouldn't have been in the band. (The blah blah blah is directed at me, not anyone else on this board

talked to page a few years ago,he's not right wing.he's arrogant and cocky, maybe not as much as back in the 'glory boys' era but he is a smart likeable guy.

A guy I have a pint with is convinced Weller was a right winger - suppose some of his lyrics might be construed that way - only if you didn't know the rest of his lyrics

But then The Style Council were part of the Labour party Red Wedge Tour. Must admit though that the last time I saw Weller live there did seem to be a few right wing types in the audience.
