yeah i work for the biggest freight company in the country. had restructing just before christmas shut quite a few depots like wagon/ loco repair facilities. aint it funny the poor bstrd who has to do the job bites the bullet yet they manage to create shitloads of jobs for them up stairs. christ it was still is a joke there were four or five blokes from cardiff canton they had nearly 300 years in between them yet no body came to say good by or owt. they create hundreds of non discript jobs for people you wouldnt pay holes in washers for yet theres no fcker to do it on the ground. the crank who has taken over now recons if it aint moving scrap it we dont need spare capacity. he,s telling everyone else theres no money in the pot yet he,s having this fancy train kitted out in toton so he can go galavanting across the country in it basically talking shite to everone and how bad times are. its fitted with beds plasma tellys its the dogs bollox. yet were fcking about trying to get tools for the job.
no doubt were he comes from his village is missing its idiot .

Data entry clerk. Not very interesting, but I make money, so I can't complain. Nothing's worse than being unemployed.

A Learning Mentor in a comprehensive school in East London. My wife does a similar job with excluded kids in Hackney. We both get to see exactly what years of Tory policy, New Labour neglect and the effects of social exclusion have done to deprived working class areas. Not only from the kids' POV, but the parents', community leaders', teachers', social care set-ups' etc. Our borough (Barking and Dagenham), for example, has just got rid of it's only bereavement counselling service for children and young people, for funding reasons. The country is still being strangled, in the way Thatcher started, but there are still plenty of people on the frontline, fighting for their communities. Keep On Keeping On, Until The Fighting's Won.

I work as a free lance writer for a local rather left newspaper. (Viva Orwell!). But the actual thing I make my living with is teacher/educational coordinator for "at risk" (i.e. fucked up) youth. I also run a playgroup for little 'uns once a week and it makes me feel like kindergarten cop!
