Hello, back after a break being a dad...still am though and would like to hear from other parents on this site.
Meanwhile, any other Blaggers fans on this board? And do any of them have cool pictures to post of this rather unphotographed band?

"Before I hang/ "Here's Johnny" is one of my favorite singles. Are the versions on the cd comparable? Lots of info with some photos here: www.dementlieu.com/~obik/arc/blaggers/index.htmlKids? two (2.5 and 5 yrs)-their rendition of "16 tons" is something to hear. Congratulations to you on yours, rotefront. --Scott

I've seen a Blaggers DVD on ebay although I think it's just a copy of the 'It's Up To You' video. I've also got that Clash tribute CD 'Never Ending Story' it's not very good though with only the Blaggers cover of 'Guns Of Brixton' and Attila The Stockbroker's version of 'Washington Bullets' been the only tracks on it worth a listen.
The Blaggers first singer Bilko sent me a photo of Chris Dean a few years back. It's the one with the Billy Bragg poster in the background. I think it was taken around the time when Bilko's first band The Anti-Social Workers supported the Redskins.

Thanks for the support Scotto. It makes the struggle all the worthwhile. Can't comment on CD tracks vs. single tracks since I don't have all their material yet. I didn't realize the Anti-Social Workers were a real band. Did they record anything? I was lucky enough to see Blaggers AKA at a fest. in the UK and they were pretty good. Would have loved to see them back in the day though. Shame about Matty, that's drugs for you.
Best to all, RF

I didn't realize the Anti-Social Workers were a real band. Did they record anything? The Anti-Social Workers line up included Tim 'Bilko' Wells who went on to sing with The Blaggers and Paul Wellings who ended up writing for the music mag Sounds. I've never heard any songs by them but I do know that they released an album. Paul Wellings used to post on the Playlouder music forum and there's a bit about The Anti-Social Workers in this thread - forums.playlouder.com/showthread.php?t=256

I had the Anti Social Workers album way back - it was called "Punky Reggae Party - Positive Stylee" from memory. I have a copy of the review from Sounds somewhere. It was great and I'd love to get hold of a copy of the album again. I occasionally search for it on eBay up so far it's all been to no avail. Regarding Blaggers ITA, I'm a big fan. I've got most of their material including the Stresss CD single and 7", one of my favourite tracks of all time. The b-sides (The Way To Die and Wildside) are crackers also. And someone mentioned their cover of Guns Of Brixton, it's on their Mantrap single. (BTW, Mantrap is not the GBH song of the same name!) Derek.

The Guns Of Brixton cover on Mantrap is a different recording than the one on The Clash tribute CD. For me the one on the tribute is a better version.

I hadn't heard of any former Blagger members who did new projects aside from Olaf who only played in the Blaggers for a short time. What kind of music did Trench fever play?

I've dug out the review for the Anti Social Workers' "Punky Reggae Party (Positive Style)" album. It was reviewed by John Opposition, the review is good, 4 stars, and it's described as "more red than dread, more slobber than Sellasie, this is the heavy, heavy rap rant reggae sound of England '83". The Mad Professor did the music and Paul, Tim and Doc Savage supplied the vocals, according to the review. Some of the lyrics are quoted and Opposition says they are "the sharpest lyrics since Benjamon Zephaniah". I've really got to get hold of this album again! Derek.

The Blaggers have played a few gigs in the last few years under the name Blaggers AKA. The recently released RASH CD has a re-recorded version of 'It's Up To You' by the new line up but for some reason they've used the name Blaggers ITA. The song also features Mensi from the Angelic Upstarts.
