I really liked the Redskins. Never been a fan or anything like that - they were more like a ship passing by, close enough to gather they made good music, but gone pretty quickly too. Played their album quite a bit tho.
A couple of nights ago I ended up wondering whatever happened with them. I ended up writing a long blog post about it, phrasing the band's fate also as a metaphor for what's happened with the thriving political culture they represented.
I grew up in the 80s and my family was well political, well leftist. A lot of the features of the political scene I grew up with are gone now. And I cant help missing them.
I'm pretty ambiguous about the ideological radicalism of the Redskins now - no Trot here. So the way I tell their story might rub you the wrong way - I identify more with the tragic element in it. In any case, I've quoted the redskins.co.uk site and Dave T.'s notes there quite a bit, so I wanted to leave a shout-out and if he's reading this, thanks and good work!
Anyway, leave a comment & tell me what you think if you feel like it - and you dont think it's all just total bollocks anyway :-D
