I'm not sure about the UK, but I'm sure that's been happening in the US a lot, with Dubya's less than stellar record on employment. [/quote]
yeah i have seen the facts regarding bushes record . it makes pretty grim reading especially regarding jobs welfare medicare taxes etc its like another thatcher only in pants no doubt he will worm his way back into the whitehouse hook or by crook. also his policys abroad are turning out pretty grim as well.
A Learning Mentor in a comprehensive school in East London. My wife does a similar job with excluded kids in Hackney. We both get to see exactly what years of Tory policy, New Labour neglect and the effects of social exclusion have done to deprived working class areas. Not only from the kids' POV, but the parents', community leaders', teachers', social care set-ups' etc. Our borough (Barking and Dagenham), for example, has just got rid of it's only bereavement counselling service for children and young people, for funding reasons. The country is still being strangled, in the way Thatcher started, but there are still plenty of people on the frontline, fighting for their communities. Keep On Keeping On, Until The Fighting's Won.
I cannot, and will not, cut my conscience to fit this year's fashions.
I work as a free lance writer for a local rather left newspaper. (Viva Orwell!). But the actual thing I make my living with is teacher/educational coordinator for "at risk" (i.e. fucked up) youth. I also run a playgroup for little 'uns once a week and it makes me feel like kindergarten cop!
