The eagerly anticipated 2-Tone Celebrations centred at BBC Coventry & Warwickshire will be up and running from Monday 30th January.
Everyone can get to hear at least some of the output via the website at www.bbc.co.uk/coventry/entertainment/music/2_tone/
The Open Centre itself will play host a series of classic 2-Tone photos taken by Toni Tye (www.tonitye.com) plus some interesting memorabilia from the late seventies early eighties (This is also being hosted at The Herbert in Coventry). Here’s how it’s panning out over the week.
Monday 30th from 2.00pm Pete Chambers and a selected group will be walking some of Coventry’s 2-Tone trail. From 8.00pm Pete will be talking to Coventry ska band Special Brew on Anita Miah’s Evening show.
Wednesday 1st From 8.00pm Pete will be exploring the roots of 2-Tone with Ray King and Amos Anderson on Anita Miah’s Evening show.
Thursday 2nd A live event takes place from 7pm to 10pm with Liz Kershaw as compare and featuring The All Ska’s from Norwich, plus the debut gig from Neol Davies & Horace Panter’s new band 3 Minute Heroes (with former Selecter man Aitch as guest drummer). Next up is Neville Staple and his band, and the night is topped off by Roddy Radiation’s Skabilly Rebels.
Friday 3rd From 3.00pm the 2-Tone game show “You’re Wondering Now” takes to the air, it features “The Judge Roughnecks” (Neville Staple, superfan Mike Cornwell and BBC Radio Presenter Clive Eakin) “Verses The Three Minett Heroes” (Horace Panter, Special Brew’s Simon Kelly and BBC presenter Vic Minett). A recipe for missing words and too much pressure!
Saturday 4th Author of The 2-Tone Trail Pete Chambers (rocksgodiva.tripod.com/2tonetrail) will be signing his books at Ottakar’s Bookshop (located under the old Tiffany’s site, now the library of course). With music from Gaz and Ronny part of Nuneaton’s finest ska band The Tonics.
Sunday 5th Many of you have been voting for your favourite 2-Tone songs at www.bbc.co.uk/coventry/content/articles/2006/01/09/2tone_best_track_feature.shtml Now you can go back and vote on the shortlist that’s currently active on the site, the results will be revealed today (5th) on Vic Minett’s ska Special from 2pm to 4pm.
There will be loads of other stuff going on, including interviews with many people who made the difference, so listen live via the website or also on 94.8FM, 104FM, 103.7FM and DAB Digital Radio.
